Lavender Project and cut flowers
We have been planning to increase the amount of flowers we can grow at The River Site. The reason for this was linked to the arts and crafts that many project members enjoy doing at Perlins, but also for the enjoyment and beauty of flowers for us and wildlife.
We use the lavender for making wreaths and are planning to sell cut flowers.
As these projects have unfolded they have sparked many interesting ideas and directions for us to take the project in.
The journey
To begin with we needed to build a green house to allow us to grow and bring on the flowers - you can see a post all about that on our blog! Next we needed to build raised beds to grow the flowers in. We have also undertaken a big renovation of a previously derelict bank, made from old building rubble. We have landscaped this into terraced beds to grow lavender on. One lovely idea project members have had is to have a yearly Lavender picnic at the time of the lavender harvest, something we are definitely going to do.
